John Emerald Distilling Company in Opelika, Alabama would like to announce their Spurgeon's Barrel Aged Rum has won a Silver Medal in the New York International Spirits Competition. "We are especially proud of our Silver Medal since the competition judges over 500 spirits from 54 different countries. " Said John Sharp, distiller and co-founder.
"We also won Alabama Rum Distillery of the Year" said Jimmy Sharp, master distiller and co-founder. However, he was quick to point out that John Emerald is the only Rum distillery in Alabama. "But we'll take it anyway" noted Jimmy. In fact John Emerald is the only distillery to ever produce Rum in Alabama.
Spurgeon's Barrel Aged Rum is made with sugar cane syrup from Todd's Syrup Farm in Headland, Alabama along with other special sugars. It is matured in John Emerald's Single Malt Whiskey barrels in their climate controlled barrel room.
